Earlier this year, I went to Kazakhstan and one of the highlights of that trip was a visit to Medeu where I went on a cable car ride with friends up to Shymbulak. It was very foggy and the day’s atmosphere reminded me of Playdead’s Inside. That day I filmed and edited this mini, minute-long vlog of sorts that I thought I’d share today. All shot and edited on a phone. The sounds are just ambient sources—the howling of mountain wind, the clanging of cable car metal—merely slowed down.
Filming videos has always been something I wanted to seriously pursue but I’ve only ever shared half-baked films with a handful of friends for a variety of reasons from dissatisfaction with the quality of the captured footage to not liking the sound of my voice. There’s a series of clips from the time I got lost in Georgia (ending up 13km from the hotel with no Internet connection or a working SIM card, wandering along the Tbilisi Sea, talking to a pine cone) that will probably not see the light of day ever.
