nov’24
November was an eventful one. Although my art output was not as much as the previous month’s, I had a lot of exposure to others’ creative output.
art
I did some sketches to gauge art style for the web comic I want to start. Storywise, I still have no idea what the comic would/could/should be about.
journal
I started blogging…again. I intended for it to be a daily thing this month and failed just a week into it, but I did write quite a bit:
- added and wrote about supporting reduced motion in GIFs on Arachne
- wrote about how I organise computer files
- wrote about my laptop’s dead pixels
- wrote a post in (broken) Italian, which consequently reignited my quest to learn the language after the feedback I got from both Italian friends and strangers
- wrote about how I organise images in Arachne
- played around with multiset rewriting in Tote
- wrote about slowing down
- wrote about what I do on Saturdays
- uploaded what would be the only video on my desolate channel to date
- visited the Bangkok Art Biennale
- wrote about wanting to rely less on search engines
- wrote about redesigning and refining this site
consumption
Books, games, and the Internet:
- reading The Tatami Galaxy by Tomihiko Morimi
- still reading Sapiens by
(mi dispiace per il lento progresso, Ilaria)Yuval Noah Harari
- the 1.6 update was finally released on Android so I’ve been catching up on Stardew Valley. Summer, Year 6, 87 % towards perfection.
- slowly progressing in Rain World; those darn salamander things!
- found anhvn’s site last month, but I just wanted to include it here because this new Now section was partially inspired by her weeknotes
- found out about RadioSide and have been using it in the background to play jazz from a Kazakh radio station (118882). I wish I could spend the holidays in Almaty and just while away my afternoons at Nedelka
- found Comma Directory
- found @muan’s website
- tuned in to the Handmade (Seattle) livestreams
- A Shining Place Built Upon The Sand by Devine Lu Linvega; transcript here
- Democratizing Software by Wryl
personal
Skip if you're not interested; contains tidbits about physical and mental health
- I’ve been going through some personal issues that has led me to neglect physical health—particularly diet, physical activity, and sleep—things to be remedied in the coming month
- drank a lot of coffee this month and noticed that caffeine has a stronger effect on me now
- being anemic doesn’t help
- still very much dissatisfied with where I am in life, geographically and career-wise
- my friends where I live aren’t really on the same wavelength as me in terms of interests
- the people I’d rather interact with in person are the ones furthest away
- work sucks, though still tolerable for now
- also I want to travel again. Slovenia? Bakuriani? Astana? Anywhere snowy.
misc
- I visited a lot of galleries this month
- attended both Galleries’ Nights, which are special nights where participating art galleries all over Bangkok stay open till late night; organised by the Embassy of France
- met Wrt, a Thai art student who creates oil paintings of organic, alien-like forms with a great grasp of lighting; currently in residence at Banzi. @jimwrt (Instagram)
- met Samuel Ayache a.k.a. Poti, a French street artist who paints vibrant characters (Potis) and portraits; exhibit at Rhizome. @potiworld (Instagram)
- also visited Bangkok Kunsthalle, Mana Craft, Mala Art, Warehouse 30, ATT19, River Citya, Catneep, XSPACE, and QSNCC
This has been the first of monthly Now updates. I’m still unsure what format it will take, or if it even needs one. Was this too lengthy? Should I opt for weekly or biweekly instead?
upcoming
- December Adventure starts tomorrow! I’m not sure if I’ll post anything new in the journal this month as each December devlog technically counts as a post
- I’ll continue updating the Commonplace. I hope someone out there is finding some of those notes useful
